Waited 4 Years Waiting To Start! Don't Be Me...

There's something quietly universal about the gap between who we want to be and what we actually do. We all carry a thing — maybe it's a business idea, a fitness goal, a creative pursuit, or even something as simple as learning the harmonica — that sits in the drawer of our intentions, gathering dust. In this episode, we get honest about why we stall, how "getting ready to get ready" masquerades as progress, and what it actually feels like the moment you stop negotiating with yourself and just begin. It's a reflection born from four lost years and the surprising relief that comes from finally doing the thing you've been avoiding — even if your first attempt gets two views, both from you. If you've been circling something without ever starting, this one's for you.

And trust me when I say I know what it's like to make your own life difficult. Does your life feel like Groundhog Day on repeat? Welcome to the Eye of the Hurricane Podcast. You know, with my YouTube channel being just over a month old and having around 14 followers, I felt like naturally I would be a great source of advice. But if I'm being serious, if you can give me five minutes of your time, I may be able to help you avoid a trap that cost me four years of procrastination. Now, I'm not talking at you. I just wish if I could go back four years, someone would have been direct with me. So quickly, my procrastination was regarding content creation. But you may be listening and thinking to yourself, okay, cool, you waited four years to make a video. I could care less about making videos. And that's perfect. And I agree. Because this isn't really about making videos. It's about the thing that you're not doing, exactly admitting it like I just did. So we all have a thing, right? There's something that we have thought about or we've been wanting to get around to doing that just hasn't happened. So for you, maybe it's you want to get in shape or you can't stay on your job and you want to go do something different. Um, maybe there's a business you want to start or you know, a trip you want to take that you've been promising yourself for years that you would do. Uh, and there's times where we still don't follow through. I told myself 10 years ago I would learn how to play the harmonica, and still I have two of those that are sitting in the drawer and I can't play a lick of it. So it's not that easy to follow through sometimes. But truth is, maybe you don't even have a giant life-changing dream. Maybe it's something that's minor that you just continue to put off. But whatever it is, we have this incredible ability as human beings to get ready to get ready, right? We research it, we think about it, we watch other people do it, and then we tell our friends that we're going to go out and and do these things. And conveniently we make these excuses and we tell ourselves some amazing stories. And somehow all of that feels like it's enough progress that we end up convincing ourselves that we're actually moving the direction we want to go. So I did this on the podcast um multiple times. One example was I had I had all kinds of memberships regarding the multiple workflows that I would need to have a great podcast. So I bought these memberships four or five years ago. On top of that, I bought a bunch of top-end equipment and it just sat there and it gathered dust. So it's embarrassing, but that's what I did. Here's what I finally figured out. I was never going to be in a position where I felt completely ready. So I waited on my project because I convinced myself that everything had been talked about, right? All the subjects were covered. Nobody really cares about my perspective. There's going to be people that will judge me. So what's the point? And there were times I had more convenient stories, but those were the true stories that were holding me back. The thing is, you feel an amazing relief when you start down the road of just doing whatever your thing is. I can't even tell you how proud I am, even though I've seen no real success in the first month. But who cares? Right. So whatever you want to do, your first attempt might suck too. And it's like, cool, you know, let it suck. Your first workout when you're trying to drop 80 pounds, it might be 10 minutes, is all you can do, but that's great. Your first video might get two views. Mine, two views. That's how many I got. I I probably watched it myself twice. Um, you might have business ideas, and those may fail coming out of the gate, or maybe you do go get interviewed for a new job or um in a in a new new industry, and all of a sudden your first interview goes sideways and you don't get the offer. Hey, at least you're back to keeping your word to yourself about what you're gonna do, and that by itself, it carries tremendous power with it. And to me, doing something at least gives you information. So it's it's way more information than just thinking about it. So I go back to it. I spent four years worrying about whether I had anything original to say or if anybody would want to hear it. You know what would have helped me answer that question? Posting a video. I mean, that's the only way I know, right? Now I know because I'm posting videos. I can figure out whether or not I have anything original to say and whether or not people like it. But for four years, I just had conversations with myself. So it's those internal conversations I'm talking about, though, where you gaslight yourself into not taking action. So think about whatever your thing is. The one thing that when I started talking that immediately popped into your head. So, what's the smallest version of it that you could actually start doing today? So, not next month, not behind more excuses, um, not all the fear. You know what I mean? There's so much fear sometimes around these things. But what can you do in the next 24 hours to move yourself forward? That's the question. Whatever it is, whatever it is, just stop negotiating with yourself. Because what's going to happen is four years from now, one of two things will have happened. You will have wasted the time, and regret weighs so heavy on all of us. And you can end up in four years. In my case, I would have been waiting eight years to have done the thing I wanted to do, which was create videos. Or I would be four years into doing the thing that I told myself that maybe I would be good at. So do me a favor, think through it, take action, and share in the comments if there's something that you've been putting off, or if there's something that you put off that you finally took action on and how it made you feel. But I really appreciate you taking the time to jump in here. Don't underestimate what you're capable of. Have a good one.
